what's real? what isn't?
do the overlapping narratives of subjective perspectives contain the entirety of what is true and real?
or is the truth itself a subjective, fickle narrative? reality nothing more than a series of interpretations?
truthquest began as a side project for a set of interconnected and overlapping campaigns set in the star wars 3.5 system. one of our silly ways for the different player groups to follow along with the other adventures and commemorate the various highlights of : Nemoidian Queens, Mythmakers, Wookieleaks, Automatic Empire, and Girl Gang Galaxy.
we made several transcripts from an intergalactic radio show featuring met and unmet conspiracy-minded NPCs drawn primarily from the Wookieleaks campaign. that campaign featured several cleanup and coverup jobs that didn't always go off without a hitch so there were plenty of NPCs to interview and piece together a narrative that contained elements of both the coverup and the truth.
when the covid-19 pandemic began dnd stopped being a thing for us and the supporting errata seemed less important an effort, so what's collected is a mess that will take roughly nine hours to clean up into a presentable fashion. we haven't revisited those campaigns since early 2020, and likely never will, so that's at least nine hours we decided to spend on other things.
eventually we realized the name dovetailed with a conceptual journal for a series of chaotic experiments and experiences. documenting some of our path and the things we've felt connected to. but it's all so elusive. just out of reach, like too many things real, imagined, or otherwise.
metaphorical mostly it may be, but the intersection of reality/magic/faith contains a lot of weird. it's tough to hook evidence driven creatures with superstitious woo. "magic isn't real and spirituality is only a comforting set of rituals" is kind of the default state for such folk until we've been too far beyond to remember how to forget.
but we saw bits of how it worked. cut the deck any way you like, if you're you, you still get your card. how? any system with consistent mechanics can be sussed out. a painstaking process surely, but there was a process. it was to be one of the most sincere, earnest, and soul searching works we'd ever attempted.
we'd just barely gotten started when someone betrayed and destroyed us.
we craved working openly, sharing our curious explorations betwixt. but we couldn't. it hurt too much. so we burrowed deeper into stranger places and went back to working in secret, undergoing yet another type of metamorphosis.
in us there is a constant connection to things unknown. children that find comfort in haunted places tend to be a little in touch with the scary, with the weird. and often a little out of touch with the dukkha that drives this world and its human denizens.
when you seek comfort in the spaces others fear, you find your relationship with fear of the unknown grows into something else.
these experiences often take unexpected turns.
reality hurts
some people hide from it, try to shape it.
others embrace it, dare it to break them.
which are you?
do you even know?
wanna find out?
